November is a time to focus on health and gratitude, bringing attention to the issues that touch so many families — from men’s health including lung, prostate and testicular cancers to mental health, and the vital role of caregivers.
At Arizona Center for Cancer Care, we recognize that healing takes a community — patients, physicians, caregivers, and loved ones all play important roles. This month, we honor and educate around these key areas to promote prevention, awareness, and hope.
Prostate Cancer Awareness: Early Detection Saves Lives
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men, and early detection is critical. The prostate is a walnut-sized gland that produces seminal fluid, and cancer often develops slowly, showing few early symptoms. Men over 50 — or younger men with a family history of prostate or breast cancer — should talk with their provider about prostate cancer screening, which may include a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood test or a digital rectal exam.
At AZCCC, our specialists provide advanced prostate cancer treatment options, including radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and minimally invasive surgery — all with personalized care and support.
Testicular Cancer: Awareness for Younger Men
Testicular cancer primarily affects men between the ages of 15 and 35. While relatively rare, it’s one of the most treatable cancers when diagnosed early. Men are encouraged to perform monthly self-exams and watch for changes such as:
• A lump or swelling in one testicle
• A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum
• Dull aches in the abdomen or groin
If you notice changes, schedule an appointment with your provider right away. AZCCC’s cancer care team offers comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and recovery support — helping patients return to health with confidence and peace of mind.
Lung Cancer Awareness: Early Detection Matters
November is also Lung Cancer Awareness Month — a time to educate, encourage screenings, and support those impacted by one of the most common and challenging cancers. Lung cancer can develop in anyone, though risk increases with smoking history, secondhand smoke exposure, or environmental factors. Because symptoms often appear late, early detection through screening is critical.
According to American Cancer Society “Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women in the United States, estimating about 124,730 deaths from lung cancer in 2025 (64,190 in men and 60,540 in women). Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death in the US, accounting for about 1 in 5 of all cancer deaths.”
At Arizona Center for Cancer Care, our multidisciplinary team provides lung cancer diagnosis and treatment, offering personalized options such as radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies designed to maximize both outcomes and quality of life.
Men's Mental Health and Suicide Prevention
Physical health is only part of the story — mental and emotional well-being are equally essential. Men often face barriers to seeking help for mental health concerns like depression or anxiety, which can lead to higher suicide rates.
Through mental health and support services, AZCCC encourages open conversations and emotional wellness for patients and families. Seeking help is a sign of strength — not weakness.
If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7.
Honoring Caregivers: The Heart Behind the Healing
November is also National Family Caregivers Month — a time to honor the incredible individuals who provide care, compassion, and support to loved ones facing illness. Caregivers play an essential role in every patient’s journey, offering physical assistance, emotional strength, and hope through some of life’s hardest moments.
At AZCCC, we celebrate caregivers for their selflessness and resilience. We also remind them to prioritize their own health — taking time for rest, connection, and support when needed. Taking Action This November
This month — and every month — we encourage everyone to take charge of their health and support those around them:
• Schedule your annual health screening and talk with your doctor about prostate and testicular cancer prevention.
• Check in on your emotional well-being and seek mental health support when needed.
• Show gratitude to caregivers who make healing possible.
• Share awareness to help others take proactive steps toward better health.
